And if this is true then it is wasted time speculating about shady and powerful conspiracies behind the events of then...or now. Simply NO way to know the truth. I have personally experienced the reporting gap you refer to, and about remarks I made in an official public hearing with a public record of those remarks.

The best we can do is to cast a wide net for news and history and to use the breadth of our knowledge and common sense to assign probability values to stories we hear. This sort of critical thinking is not available to most, either by training or by basic intellectual equipment.

Having watched them for over 50 years my opinion of the sneaky and effective capabilities of the CIA, or other government bureaucracies is not high. As you point out, there is a lot of ant following ant going on;)
