As a carpenter I can tell you...it's complicated. First, of course, technically you can do it yourself, probably better and definitely cheaper than you can hire it done. But second, after a long day/week/year of demanding work the last thing you want to do is come home and get back to work. Now if you have a spouse/partner who likes to pitch in, equivalent I suppose to that massage exchange, it makes all the difference, particularly if you like spending time together anyway;)
