As in the skin color? Hard to know the context of the Couric podcast quote. I assume that she was asked a question and responded but I don’t know from your reporting what that question was. Had she used the phrase “you people” with Washington then the racial context would have been more obvious, even though a lot of white people are ignorant of the pre-load that goes with those words. His words though seem to imply that Washington was responding to the content of the question, the common perception that actors are airheads and shouldn’t use their fame to speak out on “issues of the day”. In any case, Couric is entitled to her feelings and need not justify why this episode came to mind in response to the question I assume the podcast host asked her, not unless that question was somehow loaded to lead her back to the original interview.
