Many times it’s not the dogs. Dogs read their owners, and most white people don’t hang out with many black people. I have a friend who is worried that his little dog will be aggressive with other dogs, (a rational worry considering the dog) and the dog reads his worry and bristles too often at dogs in the dog park. White people have many reasons to worry when they socialize with black people, feeling guilt at the still racist society that both live in, fear that they will say something dumb and offend, fear the dog won’t behave or will be aggressive, and yes for some, fear of the person for being black.
