Russia is a dismal, crumbling backwater with one commodity of value, and Putin has made doing business with Russia into complicity with war crimes. Putin imagined that he could roll across Ukraine, be welcomed by the population, and further cow Europe into concession after concession. This now looks like madness or incompetence; possibly the "intelligence officer" is now the captive of sycophants who don't dare feed him real data.
