I agree totally, Netanyahu and the Likud have focused nearly entirely on annexing the West Bank and at the very least, establishing a majority Jewish population there.

Their ambition is at least understandable; Israel without control of the West Bank is a nearly indefensible state, which would be far less of a concern were it not surrounded by states and non-state forces with histories and current stated goals of invading and destroying Israel.

I'm not mistaken about Hamas. They are implacably opposed to a two state solution, as is Netanyahu and the Israeli right wing.

Not all Gazans or Palestinians are Hamas supporters. Not all Israelis are Likud supporters.. Hamas HAS succeeded in driving more Israelis into the hands of the Likud and more Palestinians into the hands of Hamas. Both the Likud and Hamas are determined to solely possess Israel "from the river to the sea", both are willing to spill rivers of innocent blood to achieve their goals.

As President Jimmy Carter wisely said, there will be no peace until ALL the warring parties are convinced that there is nothing more to be gained by fighting. The Likud can be replaced (and likely will) in a democratic election. Hamas holds on to power with bloody force...this is the definition of a Gordian knot.
