I can’t agree about Moscow Mitch. He would have continued to slow down nominations to the bench, he wouldn’t have left 2 Supreme Court seats empty for two years, which would be the time between Trump’s inauguration and the devastating loss the GOP suffered in ’18, loss of the House with a bigger margin and loss of the Senate too in reaction to his refusal to seat Supreme Court justices. And Mitch couldn’t have taken us out of the Iran deal, made us align with the Sunnis in the region, couldn’t have taken us out of the Paris Accord, couldn’t have attacked Obama’ s many regulatory advances on climate change, couldn’t have built one foot of stupid border wall or put refugee kids in cages or corrupted the Justice Dept.
If Obama voters voted for Trump then that is truly tragic, for them. They have literally shot themselves in the foot to protest against Mitch. Enabling the dark forces by giving them a warm seat with a pen has only made their lives worse, their futures more bleak, and I blame Bernie for some of their delusion. This is such an ignorant and confused action on their part. The younger electorate may be impatient, they will have to step up and vote and vote and vote again, even when the changes they think they are voting for don’t come to pass. Sanders has no magic bullet. It’s doubtful in the extreme that he can pass MFA or a wealth tax or the other good ideas without a crushing victory in November, and most of the voting public is locked in ideological place. What also worries me is the reaction of his followers if he can’t satisfy their desires. Will they stay engaged? only time will tell.
