I remember the weekend going into the landfall of Hurricane Katrina, watching it blow up in the Gulf and head for Louisiana, possibly New Orleans. I had a job that Monday morning but lingered around the house waiting for news about how bad it was going to go, it looked like a epic disaster in the making. WTH was president Bush doing? Not only was responding to national emergencies like this basically his job, but his approval ratings were tanking and he desperately needed a political boost. How was it possible that he didn’t see both his responsibility and the opportunity to be presidential? Obviously not a competent leader.
