I suppose it starts with each of us, policing our own writing for ad hominem and strawman arguments, making that assumption that those we argue with have patriotic motives. If we have kids we can demand civics classes, government classes, history classes in their schools. We should commit to participate in local government, which is the actual engine of democracy...it's a big project.
