I was so pleased to hear a poem with real elements of poetry. No doubt I'm a Philistine, but much of what people call poetry today strikes me as prose re formatted to look like a poem on the page. Gorman paid homage to hip hop with her rhythm and rhyme schemes but with a lighter touch than many successful rappers. No doubt she could have and would have cut it some if she had weeks or months to edit and rewrite, but for the time and occasion it was a home run, at least for me;)
