I’m a relatively old fart (67) trying to rebuild a body broken down by decades of heavy use as a carpenter/athlete, and to envision a new phase of life not bounded by elder care responsibilities and the need to work for a living. Fasting to deal with the doughy softness caused by the limited mobility that extensive degenerative disc disease imposed on me for nearly a decade. After fusion surgery I am able to stand for protracted periods of time, work out at the gym, and of course launch and row my drift boat on big rivers, pack my camping gear up the bank for overnight stays, and hopefully in the near future hike significant distances into wilder country.
As you might surmise from the above, I am not fasting for “spiritual” reasons, am trimming body fat, lowering blood pressure, improving blood chemistry; have plans for an active retirement, including opportunities for service and need robust health to accomplish those plans, not to mention to enjoy them;)
