Ironically duct tape must not be used on ducts... the adhesives on the tape dry out over time and the tape fails. A building inspector will call you on this every time. Ducts are now sealed with a mastic with non adhesive fiber glass mesh tape imbedded or with aluminum tape with a modern adhesive.
