It seems you share the author's ignorance of U.S. politics. Democtrats have controlled all three branches with a filibuster proof majority in the senate for about three months during the decades since the '80s when the GOP began targeting abortion rights. Many Republicans remained pro-choice well into the '90s. It's funny how representative government works, if you don't have the votes, you don't get the bills. Neither marriage nor reproductive rights are allowed in recompilation bills, and of course as I pointed out, voting rights, reproduction rights, labor rights, environmental and climate action, would all enjoy Supreme Court protection had voters done the smart thing, the right thing in '16.
