Jon, I doubt very much that the reaction was about some sort of reflexive reaction to wounds from 175+ years ago. It reads far more like brand protection to me. Possibly you can do (have done?) some writing on LDS Inc., the vast fortunes amassed by the tithing requirement of "the church", the degree to which our local schools are impoverished by all those "charitable" tax exemptions and property tax exemptions, the way that our legislature is silently ruled from North Temple.

I've lived reasonably amicably for over 50 years with my Mormon neighbors but I'm not blind to the way they desire to run my life according to their beliefs.
