Mike, I read your story on your arrest, and not knowing what you are doing about diet now, I wanted to share a couple of things. First, a meal of chicken wings can definitely trigger a heart event. Dietary fat, particularly from animal sources can make blood more viscous and the oils/fats present can impede in real time the artery lining of endothelial cells, restricting their ability to produce nitric oxide, which would help them expand and allow more blood flow. This is the reason that nitroglycerin is an immediate treatment for angina.

I read a report from a Korean (I think) doctor with access to a wave pulse analysis machine that measures the elasticity/rigidity of arteries. Though basically heart healthy, he was able to measure significant increase in blood vessel rigidity and peripheral blood pressure within an hour or so of eating a couple of ounces of nuts.

"Food" for thought...there is significant research into the links between diet and arterial function/disease. At nutritionfacts.org, Dr. Michael Greger takes many deep dives into the existing and ongoing science. He has kind of a goofy affect but is worth a listen, and perhaps a read. His latest book, How Not to Age, examines many of the physiological and biochemical paths to either health or disease;)
