Not as currently configured, and for a pretty good reason. Modern economies rely on commerce to function, and commerce relies on currency. When people believe that their currency is deflating (gaining purchasing power) they withhold it from commerce, delay purchases, and commerce can enter a recessionary spiral. Better to have a low and predictable inflation rate than to flirt with the unvirtuous spiral which is particularly hard on small business and working families. There are plenty of other places to store value that don't harm and can actually enhance the economies on which almost everyone rely.
