Of course society can induce "gene-evolution"...what do you think that sexual selection actually does? But beyond that obvious example, evolution at the genetic level is a response to the demands and opportunities of the selective environment, and for a social species like homo sapiens, the social group is the MOST important and powerful selective environment. We don't need to develop long and furry body hair to deal with the freezing cold, we can hunt bears and seals and appropriate theirs, We DO need to develop the emotional reward circuits necessary to cooperate effectively enough to tackle tough environments like the frozen north.
