Of course we want to influence China. In a perfect world we could be partners in commerce and cultural exchange with China. In this world China is conducting the largest and most extensive campaigns of genocide on the globe, has crushed Hong Kong's democratic freedoms in direct violation of their treaty and is constantly threatening to invade the independent nation of Taiwan at the potential cost of hundreds of thousands of deaths and trillions in destruction so that Xi can crush Taiwan's self rule, you know, their "internal affairs"?

BTW, the autocratic, genocidal, and fascist China state now threatens freedom loving people throughout the region.
