Pretty hard sell to the money folks though. Who could possibly care about a possible extinction hundreds of thousands or millions of years from now, or even sooner, a mere tens of thousands of years? Possibly in the future we will become so sophisticated that the necessary engineering will become relatively cheap, that’s the only scenario I see for its development. Given the incredibly involved and interrelated technology necessary to maintain our own civilization it seems obvious that interstellar colonization will be a heavy lift, maybe there’s some principle of quantum entanglement that could speed up communications. When the fastest method of communication is your spaceship itself you can wait a long time for resupply of something you didn’t even know you would need.
