Reminds me of my first woodworking project, a book rack in 8th grade shop class. The instructor set me to planing a board square, but neglected to tell me that you strike lines on the board to plane TO...there I was planing furiously and then checking with the tri-square. Nope, still not square;) Wasn't till I became a carpenter in my twenties that I figured out planing to a line. I gave that book rack to my mom, retrieved it from her condo three years ago after her death. Gotta love moms, who else will see the value in our fumbling first attempts?
