As to the "expert" you cite, you will note that he consistently refers to the nation of Ukraine as "the Ukraine", thus denying it's existence as a legitimate and sovereign state. He also accuses Russian Jews running Stalin's secret services as being the authors of the Holodomor that as Russian state policy starved millions of Ukrainians. Russia's claims about their supposed defense of the Donbass are belied by their ACTIONS. Were they acting to defend those regions and assure their autonomy then they would simply have occupied them...they did something else entirely. They invaded the north of Ukraine making a foolhardy attempt to take Kiev and decapitate the government, they invaded the southern coast with the clear and stated intent of taking Odessa and blocking Ukraine from access to the Black Sea, thus destroying Ukraine's integrity as a nation.

This situation has NOTHING to do with feuding gangs or neighbors, it's simply a land grab by a huge but deeply autocratic kleptocracy/autocracy whose stated objective is to spread its form of corrupt and criminal dictatorship to its neighbors, to replace the pax-Europa that has prevented invasions among sovereign states with the object of changing national boundaries and annexing the territories invaded.
