"Society's preferences" are strongly influenced by media, and the same kind of body shaming, air brushed and unrealistic images, expectations for clothing and grooming that harm and disempower women are also deployed against men. The most important qualities of any person are not superficial, and are generally not celebrated or pushed in stereotyped in media conventions.
