Stupid Human Tricks With Boats

Near Disaster

For over 30 years I have spent a dozen or more days a year rowing on my favorite rivers. Over that time I have had a couple of minor accidents; I once caught an oar blade between rocks in a rapid, flinging me out of the rowing seat and bending the oar, I’ve had to drag a boat back up a blocked side channel like Hepburn and Bogart in The African Queen. But till last month I never really scared myself.
