The conservatives making political hay by demonizing CRT portray the bills they are writing as being "against CRT"...and for an obvious reason. Conservatism is a fear based mindset and political philosophy, it simply collapses without an enemy on whom to focus and fear.

This was made abundantly clear after the collapse of the Soviet Union and subsequent floundering of the GOP to find another seminal object of fear. The first new target was the federal government, which led to Oklahoma City bombing, and then of course came 9/11 and the supposed global caliphate threat.

Now that these seem to be winding down the fear focus has shifted back to brown people and immigrants and of course Black Lives Matter and CRT. Fear, of course, stimulates and thrives on irrationality, and the complex and sometimes opaque nature of actual CRT makes it a juicy target to keep fear alive.
