The two are in no way equal. Disbelief can be supported both by contradictory evidence (volumes of evidence of an old Earth in the face of Biblical creation stories for example) and by the absence of confirmatory evidence. Given the dearth of evidence supporting the existence of supernatural beings, belief in them relies almost totally on faith.
