There are no good sides in this conflict, and empathy with their victims will not effect the ongoing violence. Hamas intentionally targets civilians and publicizes their crimes for political effect. The government of Israel is actively attempting to take the land, and thus control over the West Bank and destroy the possibility of a Two State Solution. Both of these sides have long records of using force to accomplish their goals and little or no reticence with targeting civilians.

When two antagonists have reconciled ethnic cleansing and even genocide to gain their ends there seems to be only one answer; to remove the leadership driving the conflict, and while Israel has a way to do this there's no evidence that the Palestinian people do as well.

I don't know if there is an answer, I certainly can't see one.
