There is one overriding consideration in saving any endangered species...habitat. With sufficient habitat the species has a chance, without habitat, not much. The power of protecting charismatic species like the Panda is the necessary protection of Panda habitat to accomplish this goal. Protected habitat is full of species diversity, developed habitat is denuded of diversity. Save the Panda and you save countless other non-charismatic species in the process;)
