Usually the range capacity controls the population, with some wrenching collapses involved. We have used technology to leverage our range, just as previous financial institutions and players leveraged their holdings to ramp up profits on their "investments". All they lost was paper profits and stakes, humanity will lose families, communities, possibly nations if the current leveraged range hiccups.
