Way too much "we" in this piece. We did not put Putin in power. Our system is not similar to Russia's. Every country has similar people, some of them are not men. In much of the "west" the "equation" is under constant question, constant change, and that change is one reason that the reaction is strong enough to let a toxic person like trump can slide into power.

I think you'll see in the international reaction to Putin that most people give a damn, that many have always given a damn and have paid high prices to end the craziness.
