What an ignorant attempt at analysis. The Taliban emerged in the early '90s as a military force of the largest ethic group in Afghanistan and second largest in Pakistan, the Pashtuns, who were aligned with the Saudi centered Islamic fundamentalist Wahhabi mission in the century's old Sunni/Shia conflict in the Muslim nations. Afghanistan has been divided between many Sunni ethnic groups with a minority Shia population, long subjugated at the hands of the more powerful Sunni groups. The Taliban was created largely by the Pakistan ISI intelligence agency to foster a Pakistan friendly Afghan force and possibly government in the ongoing Afghan civil war. Hard to see how someone can gripe about "forever wars" in the Middle East and then gripe about the consequences of pulling out of a "forever war" in Afghanistan.
The trump deal with the Taliban painted a target squarely on our soldier's back, with our disengagement in the fight against the Taliban and the understanding that our troops would be attacked if they re-engaged or failed to quit the country by last May. Two choices remained; restart the hot war with the Taliban with our troops or get out. Regardless of the lies being told by GOP politicians the Taliban has been conducting a relentless military and terror campaign for the last several years, held back partially by our "bombing of their weddings" a "destruction or their towns". Hard to have it both ways, can't hold back extremist forces like the Taliban by asking "pretty please".
