With many years of experience being single and several longish term relationships as well I can tell you, it's 100 times better to be by yourself than with someone who bores you, who doesn't share at least some of your values and goals, who is uncomfortable with deep and searching discussions, or who just isn't much fun.

When I'm by myself I am never bored, never lonely, the company is almost always good, and while I enjoy friends and social occasions I'm usually pleased to go home. I do have the world's sweetest dog to keep me company, and I would gladly share my life with the right person, and share theirs, but the cost of being committed to an unfulfilling relationship is steep indeed.
