Yes on The Wealth of Nations, and there’s a huge difference between inventing a technology and being willing to capitalize taking it to market. You could look at how the GUI technology entered the PC market for example. Xerox invented it (in my old home town) and basically gave it to Steve Jobs because they couldn’t imagine a marketable use for it. Jobs showed them that use and forced the whole industry to change course and go all in on PCs. Ford dabbled in electric vehicles for a century or so and never got serious until Tesla proved that even a start up with zero experience in car design, manufacturing, or marketing could make a go, just as Jobs proved that desk top computing was an actual market. Nothing like a little market competition to stimulate technological advances;)
