You have to actually participate in a market economy to experience its profound creativity. Market economies are at least adjacent to capitalism, and though big money capitalism can be crushing to workers, innovation and democratic values it is not necessarily so.

Currently, much of the heavy lifting to create carbon free systems is being done by corporations, and big money capitalism is supplying much of the funding for the research and development of batteries, generation, and electric vehicles. The possibility of creating the vehicle, battery or solar panel equivalent to the smart phone is a profound incentive, and in contrast, a guaranteed job in a government organized and run company can be a creativity killer. Those jokes about five guys on a road crew leaning on their shovels aren't entirely untrue, while I can tell you from decades of experience that the possibility of making more money or capturing more market share can really add the incentive to put those shovels to work.
