You’re in no position to tell me anything. Cows release methane, Thawing permafrost releases methane. Landfills release methane. Your assumption and yours alone that anyone is planning to “go back to normal and wait for new R&D”. I find this so often on Lauren’s “left”, people with no concept of he scale of human development, no concept of the amount of energy necessary to keep 8 billion humans housed, clothed and fed.

I shouldn’t have to explain to you the difference in greenhouse emissions between coal fired power plants and nat gas fired plants but I guess I do. Nat gas produces 42% LESS greenhouse gas per BTU than does coal, in new plant technology 50–60% less, no fly ash, no sulfur dioxide, nitrous oxide, small particulates, approx 2% of greenhouse gasses released in the US are uncaptured nat gas, most of which comes from abandoned wells. Electrical generation releases about 27% of our total greenhouse gas emissions, wind and solar produce about 9% of our electricity, I’ll let you do the arithmetic.

State governments control regulation of drilling on private land, which produce 84% of U.S. nat gas. Drillers must report finished wells to EPA, which regulates emissions from wells. Trump has tried to end the Obama imposed regulatory control on gas emissions, Biden of course will restore them. Easy to pretend that electricity production will just go away, or that renewables will quickly replace fossils. Like almost everything of consequence to human survival, there’s no magic to apply to energy production.
